Deadline reports that Oscar Award-winning actress Kate Winslet has accepted to take part in the newest MGM movie “FAKE.”

The movie is based on an unpublished book by Jen McAdam and Douglas Thompson. This movie is about a true story told by a victim of the Ponzi cryptocurrency scheme Onecoin. Kate Winslet will be starring in the movie, and she was nominated seven times for Oscars, won Best Actress in 2009 for a famous role in the movie Reader.

The movie will be written and directed by Scott Z. Burns, who won rave reviews for his 2019 political drama “The Report,” a movie based on the CIA’s report on torture post 9/11. He also wrote the 2011 pandemic movie Contagion, in which Kate Winslet played a role.

Since 2014, Onecoin proponents have claimed the Ponzi scheme was a real cryptocurrency with a blockchain and it would be considered the “Bitcoin killer.”

Founded in 2014 Onecoin project was introduced by Ruja Ignatova in Bulgaria.  The company was registered as an offshore company OneCoin Ltd in Dubai. According to the reports, U.S. prosecutors alleged that the scheme rake in US$ 4 billion around the world. Ignatova disappeared along with the collected funds in 2017, and her arrest was replaced by her brother Konstantin Ignatov. Ruja Ignatova is still at large, and her partner Sebastian Greenwood was arrested in 2018. The OneCoin project is one of the biggest scams in history.
